COMMUNITY GRANTS

We take pride in supporting the communities where we live and work. Since launching our Community Small Grants Scheme in Wales and the Energy Division in April 2024, we've been delighted to fund a wide range of local projects, clubs, and initiatives that are making a real difference.

As part of our ongoing commitment to community engagement and creating social value, this scheme provides sponsorships to grassroots groups, non-profit organisations, and local community initiatives. We know how powerful community based projects can be, and we’re proud to share some of the incredible work we’ve helped to support over the past year:

Supporting sport, youth, and wellbeing

Sport plays a powerful role in shaping young lives, not just through physical fitness, but by supporting mental health, encouraging teamwork, building confidence, and creating a sense of belonging. That’s why we’re proud to have supported a number of grassroots sports clubs and youth teams through our Small Grants Scheme.

These local clubs provide vital spaces for young people to grow, connect, and thrive:

  • Llantwit Fardre RFC– Provided new playing kits to help make rugby more accessible, especially for parents with multiple children across age groups. Their focus is on fostering happiness, participation, and healthy competition among players.

  • Ty Celyn Football Club Under 7s– Sponsored team wear for this inclusive junior football club in East Cardiff, which supports mixed teams from U6 to U19. The club is committed to making football fun and accessible while promoting values like teamwork and respect.

  • Graig Villa Dino Football Club– Contributed towards team equipment, allowing young players to feel part of something special and take pride in representing their team.

  • Newton Athletic Football Club– Sponsored new team kit to support young players and community participation.

  • Kenfig Hill RFC Mulettes (Ladies Rugby)– Funded new rugby kits for the women’s team, helping grow participation in the sport and empowering more women and girls to get involved.

  • Bridgend Sports– Backed this grassroots sports initiative, which supports young athletes up to the age of 18, helping them stay active, build resilience, and enjoy the many social and mental health benefits that sport can offer.

Community and wellbeing projects

  • Swansea Foodbank– Our donation helped ensure fresh fruit and vegetables could be included in emergency food parcels. Swansea Foodbank is the largest in the city, serving areas of significant deprivation. Beyond food provision, they support people with benefits advice, budgeting, tenancy support, and employment help.

  • Lads and Dads– Sponsored their mental health roadshow vehicle, enabling outreach across communities to support men’s mental health through visible, mobile engagement.

Youth & education initiatives

  • Swansea University Civil Engineering Society– Funding went towards employability and social events, enriching student life and helping students prepare for careers in engineering.

  • Llanilltud Faerdref Primary School– Contributed to transforming a small forest school area into a fully accessible outdoor learning space for bushcraft, nature education, and weekend community use.

  • Norfolk Scouts– Sponsored the Scout team responsible for emergency and medical cover at events. Our grant helped get their mobile treatment and training unit on the road, ensuring it was taxed, insured, roadworthy, and ready to serve.

Charity & fundraising events

  • CECA Wales Foundation Group– Supported the CECA Wales cycle challenge from London to Paris in aid of the Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity.

  • Macmillan Cancer Research Charity Boxing Match– Sponsored boxing shorts and equipment, making the fundraising event possible.

A shared commitment

Each of these projects represents the heart of what our Community Small Grants Scheme is all about: building stronger, healthier communities through meaningful support. From sports kits and outdoor learning spaces to mental health support and food provision, our grants have reached far and wide.

Through our engagement on Twyn Hywel we pledge to support grassroots community initiatives using our community grants scheme, enabling us to make a real difference to the communities where we are working.
